In the spring of 2004, Best Mattress Incorporated in a partnership with Serta Inc. purchased the rights to the name Mattress Discounters in an asset purchase of the local Pittsburgh region. Mattress Discounters of Pittsburgh is the largest independently owned, family operated Serta sleep shop in Pennsylvania. Mattress Discounters specializes in premium beds sales, futons, daybeds and accessories with locations in Pittsburgh and the surrounding western Pa. marketplace. Having roots in the Pittsburgh mattress industry as far back as 1989 in the way of Pittsburgh Mattress, The Mattress Department, and Mega Mattress….Mattress Discounters has evolved into the most reputable and recognizable name for bedding needs in the region. Electing to specialize in specific mattress sales and accessories is an important part of the success story. At one point, not too long ago…..Mattress Discounters had up to six different brands names on the floor. This led to vendors lobbying for their product to be sold and putting pressure on dealers to sell their product, no matter what the quality or price. This led to confusion and pressure on the consumer. This all ended in the spring of 2004 when it was decided to carry the Serta brand mattress. In an independent market study, it was found that Serta brand mattresses were, by far, the most dependable, time tested, and reputable mattress product on the market. Dating back over 75 years as a leader in excellence in the way of engineering and comfort, it was easy to choose Serta as our flagship brand. Since then, Mattress Discounters has led the way in the Western Pa. region with the motto of…We're Family, We're Local, We're the Largest…….and We Care!!

Owner and Family

Best Mattress/Mattress Discounters are owned locally by the Kmonk family. The principal owners are Kathy and Joe Kmonk. The Kmonks are Pittsburgh natives and operate the business with the same blue collar work ethics that makes this region so special. Mark Kmonk, who is Joe's brother, is the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of the company. Tom Kmonk, the patriarch of the family heads up the all important customer service department. The Kmonk family is proud of the ethnic diversity in the Pittsburgh area and are staunch supporters of the local sports, arts and charitable organizations which are all so important to this region. Choosing to live and do business in the local sector is important in the way of putting money back into the local economy by creating jobs, paying taxes to municipalities, and donating to charities. Family values such as honesty, excellence, hard work, and especially commitment, play a big role in how Mattress Discounters is operated. Even though we choose to use the name Mattress Discounters for recognition, we stand apart from other markets in our belief of honesty and excellence above all else. Mattress Discounters in association with Serta is part of one of the largest mattress affiliations in the United States. Americas Mattress and affiliates have over 400 locations nationwide. This allows Mattress Discounters to participate in many nationally sponsored programs that can lead to extra savings for the Pittsburgh marketplace. As a result of our partnership with Serta and a high volume of mattress sales, we are able to secure factory direct pricing and pass the savings along to the consumer. Our product is shipped 4 times a week from the Serta production facility in nearby Jamestown, NY….enabling us to get a fresh new mattress and other product to the customer in a quick and timely fashion. Our warehouse is located in Pleasant Hills Pa. and can stock over 1000 pieces. Our very own delivery teams encompass the entire Pittsburgh and surrounding counties. Deliveries to West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland regions are also possible depending on the circumstances.
